Flowdock’s journey to product-market fit

Download slides

Otto discusses how Flowdock’s idea evolved from a time tracking system to “team inbox with chat”.

How to do product management when you still don’t know who the customer is? What does product-market fit mean, and how do you know you got there?

We’ll have a look at how customer development practices can help you validate your ideas, how Flowdock uses continuous deployment to iterate features with end users, what they have learned from thousands of customer feedback emails, and how to measure if your users are loving you or not.

Bio:

Otto Hilska co-founded Nodeta, an agile Ruby on Rails shop, and Flowdock, the chat-based team inbox for software developers. Along the way he and his team have helped the community by building stuff like APIdock, a social documentation site for Ruby developers.

As Flowdock’s chief executive Otto has built a lean startup, and implemented many ideas based on Steve Blank’s customer development theory. Flowdock is growing rapidly, and they have recently raised funding from prominent Silicon Valley investors, including Michael Arrington’s CrunchFund, Gil Penchina, Mårten Mickos and IDG Ventures.
